Maintenance – Powerhouse 3 Seed Breakfast

There are numerous superfood breakfast options available at stores these days.  My main problem with some of these is that their prices are outrageous.  This is a quick and simple way to get the same type of breakfast for a fraction of the cost.  It contains 3 “superseeds” that are wonderful to add into your diet.

Hemp Seeds  –   these little seeds are packed with protein, and are rich in calcium, iron, zinc and Vitamin E.  They are also the perfect balance of essential fatty acids Omega 3, 6 and 9….so eat up.  I love them in smoothies as well as breads and oatmeal.

Chia Seeds    –   also a great source of Omega 3s and loaded with fibre.  They are great for athletes and keeping the body hydrated.  When soaked, they absorb up to 9 times their weight in water, and will later realease this water in your body.They are also known for boosting energy, stabilizing blood sugar, aiding digestion, and lowering cholesterol.

Flax Seed  (ground) –  another great source of fiber (just 1 TBS has 8 grams!) as well as Omega 3’s. Flax also contains lignans which reduce the risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. The lignans alter the way your body metabolizes estrogens into safer forms.

Powerhouse Breakfast – 1 serving

 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats

1 TBS chia seeds

 1 TBS hemp seeds

1 TBS ground flax seed

3/4 cup unsweetend Almond milk

Before you go to bed simply combine all of the ingredients in a breakfast bowl and refrigerate overnight.  When you awake just add the fruit of your choice and you will have a hardy breakfast that is not only good for you, but will help lower your cholesterol and keep you full 🙂
