I have a confession to make. When I first heard about essentials oils, I decided that those were just too hokey for me. Fast forward a couple of years and they are my go to for EVERYTHING! When I say everything I really mean it. From head aches to bug bites to tummy aches and flu, cold, coughs, there is an oil to help. The results: My kids have not been to the doctor for illness in almost three years. Don’t get me wrong, they have caught the latest colds and flus, but I have the remedies in my home and I always go there first. I must warn that I am not a doctor and cannot recommend or help diagnose any child, but I have learned to trust my instinct and the oils. I encourage you, if you have not done research start looking into essential oils.
Kris Carr says: Essential oils penetrate the cell membranes, allowing them to travel through the blood and tissues in order enhance cellular function. She recommends the brand Young Living created in my home state of Utah. I personally use DoTerra (equally high in quality) and even paid the extra $35 to sign up as a rep so I can get the wholesale prices for myself. I am hooked! 🙂
My must-have oils:
On Guard – I diffuse this in my kids room at night to eliminate airborne pathogens.
Breathe– Apply to chest or bottom of feet for help with any respiratory problems due to common illness or even asthma and allergies.
Lavender– Calming, when you have those nights where the kids just won’t settle or a busy day and you need to relax. This works great to rub on feet, diffuse in the room, or drop 5-8 in a warm bath.
Lemon– Sore throat wonder oil! I love this stuff. When my kids are getting a sore throat they ask for lemon water. Drinking lemon oil also provide and antioxidants and detoxes the body. I will also just rub the lemon directly on the throat to soothe a sore throat.
Melaleuca– use on rashes, cold sores, coughs, flu, antibacterial, acne or other skin blemishes
*These are only a few of the uses for these above listed oils.
And I recently made my own “vicks” chest rub for my kiddos:
2 tbsp Coconut oil
3-4 drops Eucalyptus oil
1-2 drops Peppermint oil
Combine in a small glass jar. Add more oils to adjust the strength you need.
