Newbie – Questions and Answers

We get so many great emails. We love hearing from our readers! I thought a few of these questions might be similar to some you might have. I wanted to share my answers with you.

I just recently joined the site! I am so excited! I have been on a plant based diet since January of this year! and all because of The China Study my life has been awesome!! I have 2 young children 4 and 2 years old. They like to try some of the food i make but they don;t like too many of them. My question is what do or can i do to get them more interested in the foods and i also have a husband who doesn;t like very many veges and loves meat and swears he will never give up the way he eats cuz hes a man and needs his meat ,what are some things i can do to help him understand or even convince him to stop eating the way he is? Thanks! i am stoked i found this blog!

I would recommend patience for your kids and husband 🙂

Your children are young, which can be very helpful in this process. I would recommend introducing one new food a week if they are resisting the change. Let them help pick out the fruits and veggies they want to try. Remember it takes about 12 times  of tasting a new food for our taste buds to appreciate the new flavor. Be patient 🙂

For your Husband, see if he would watch the documentary “Forks over Knives”. It streams live on netflix or is available for purchase through amazon. It is very eye opening and may encourage him to at least try a few new food ideas if not convert him on the spot. (ha)

Again, I think being patient and not pushy is the best answer for you. I know that’s prob not what you were hoping to hear, but it takes time or education to convince people that what we have been told our whole lives just might not be true.

Love and patience 🙂

I want to try this whole foods diet but i dont like beans at all, but i do eat fruits and veggies and nuts. Is this impossible for me without beans? I have 2 kids under age 2 and want to try this for weight loss.

I would not recommend eating a strict  plant based diet without consuming beans, at least 1/2cup daily. There are several different types of beans and so many ways to consume them.

Kidney and black Beans are excellent in our Anytime Bean dip, served with chips or in a lettuce wrap or over a bed of spinach.

garbonzo beans (chickpeas)

navy beans

pinto beans

white beans

black eyed peas

adzuki beans

soy beans

I am sure I have forgotten a few. I  know what it is like to try to make yourself like something just because it is good for you. I find comfort in the fact that it takes our taste buds about 12 times of tasting something new to be able to appreciate the flavor. I tested this on myself with red pepper (read about my experience here) After one week of eating them, I salivate when I see them at the store. I love them. Our body will adjust and then crave the foods that it needs. I would recommend trying some new beans.

Use our search bar on our website to find many recipes with beans.

*Disclaimer:This is the fun section where we need to tell you that we are not doctors. While we stand firmly behind all the information and research that we share with you, we are not your doctor (even though that would be kind of fun!). Please consult with your own physician before making any changes to your diet or that of your families. Hopefully your doctor is just as excited about a whole food plant-based lifestyle as we are and will encourage you every step of the way!
