Newbie – Warm Lemon Water and Chia Seeds

I recently had the opportunity to be a guest speaker at a cooking class. I had so much fun meeting wonderful women who are trying to improve not only their personal eating habits, but making the change in their homes. I applaud all of you who are making that effort on a daily basis. I know that it is not the easiest road, but it is very rewarding.

At the end of the class, I was able to just sit and chat with some of the ladies and they started picking my brain… I ended up walking them through my typical daily routine. It was a lot of fun. There was one woman who wanted to know the why behind each step I took, I loved that. I got to explain everything and speak freely about my quirky self! (and they liked it… ha)

It made me think, if they are that interested, then maybe you folks would want to know a few things too:

Right after I wake up, I drink about an 8-10 oz glass of room temp water with the juice from 1/2 of a lemon and about a tablespoon of chia seeds. I let it sit for a few minutes or until you can see the chia seeds forming a gel-like cover. Depending on the temp of the water it may take a little longer (10 minutes)

Now let me explain the why behind this delicious and refreshing drink.

If you aren’t ready for the chia seeds, at least start your day off with a full glass of fresh lemon water before putting anything else into your body.

Here are a few reasons why:

– Our bodies are constantly striving to balance our pH. We want our bodies to be more alkaline that acidic. When lemon is metabolized in our bodies it becomes extremely alkaline. It’s an easy way to get our bodies that extra boost to stay disease free. Diseases thrive in an acidic environment.

-It aids in digestion and helps flush out unwanted toxins by increasing the amount of times we go potty/urinate (hope that’s okay to share:)

-Its also very high in Vitamin C, My kids will ask for lemon water anytime they start to feel a cold or sore throat coming on. It’s an immunity booster!

-It also keeps my skin clear and glowing by removing toxins from the blood. Again the vitamin C helps combat wrinkles and other skin blemishes!

– It is also a great way to start out the day and help set the tone for the rest of your meals.

We want to keep our inside environment clear and healthy so it is ready to combat any toxin we may breathe, drink, or eat without knowing it.

Chia seeds are something I have been adding to my lemon water for about 6 months. I use to put it into my smoothies or on top of my oatmeal, but I have found that it forms a gel-substance so much faster in my warm lemon water. It is important to have them form the gel before consuming them. Chia seeds are considered gelatinous fibers and our powerful in detoxifying your liver.  Why worry about detoxing the liver? The liver acts as our bodies main filter system. Toxins are constantly entering our bodies from the air we breathe, water we drink, foods we consume, lotions-body washes, and the list goes on. It is very important that we clean our filter as often as possible. Imagine a pool filter, if its full/clogged with junk it is no longer able to keep the pool clean and we end up with dirty nasty water. The same thing happens inside our bodies… too much? The more toxins backed up in our bodies the more susceptible we are to all illnesses/disease.

I hope this makes sense, as the wonderful ladies at the cooking class learned you have to ask me to stop. I could talk for days about this good stuff.

Love and lemon water,

Newbie 🙂
